The instant of greatest eclipse takes place on -0256 Oct 12 at 11:06:26 TD (07:22:59 UT1). This is 6.8 days after the Moon reaches apogee. During the eclipse, the Moon is in the constellation Aries. The synodic month in which the eclipse takes place has a Brown Lunation Number of -26941.

The eclipse belongs to Saros 71 and is number 13 of 72 eclipses in the series. All eclipses in this series occur at the Moon’s descending node. The Moon moves northward with respect to the node with each succeeding eclipse in the series and gamma increases.

This is a very shallow partial eclipse. It has an umbral eclipse magnitude of only 0.0130 and a partial eclipse duration of 26.7 minutes. Gamma has a value of -0.9943.

The partial lunar eclipse of -0256 Oct 12 is preceded two weeks earlier by a hybrid solar eclipse on -0256 Sep 26.

These eclipses all take place during a single eclipse season.

Calendar

The Gregorian calendar (also called the Western calendar) is internationally the most widely used civil calendar. It is named for Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced it in 1582.
